Meet Alex!  Alex lives in the small lake behind my home at the South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista.  He is about 6 feet long now and loves to take in the sunshine on the banks of the lake.  He does attract attention!

In 1909 this Pump House was erected on the Rio Grande River in Hidalgo to pump water from the River for irrigation purposes.  The pumps were steam operated, and this facility was used until the 1980's.  The City of Hidalgo has turned this facility into a museum, and it is definitely worth visiting.

In the late 1800's steam boats sailed the Rio Grande River from the Gulf of Mexico to the town of Laredo, Texas.  A Frenchman built La Borde House in Rio Grande City near the River, and the steam boats would stop there for the night.  The passengers enjoyed a restful night in La Borde House.  It remains open to this day and is well-worth a visit.
